ABOUT OUR ADVENTURE PLAY
HOMESCHOOL / HALF DAY PROGRAM
Starting in Fall 2017 with a handful of pioneer families, the program was primarily focused on homeschool children. It was created to fill a void where many homeschool families found few options that included nature-based learning and access to self-directed play for their home schoolers. However, this is a void beyond homeschool kids which is why we are now shifting it to include those in traditional school as well!

We work hand in hand with participating families to build a supportive play-based community. One big part of this is our introduction and exposure of playworking to those families. Parents are invited to volunteer on-site and are invited to participate in our workshops on the concepts of playwork. This serves to enrich our parents' own concepts and relations to self-directed play. The results are pretty darn amazing! We have seen families flourish and relax in new found freedom.
Bugs, plants, building, rocks, mud and so much more have all been front and center in the activities of the day which are authentically driven by the players and their individual curiosities. Likewise, social and emotional development has flourished with the freedom to work together, respect and voice boundaries, and learn the language of resolution. The result is the creation of a culture of holistic belonging sourced from the children.

This new model also offers a unique experience for homeschool and traditional schooled children to interact on a regular and formal basis.
We are not your typical after school program with activities and structure. If you haven't yet, please read our "What is an Adventure Playground?" section of the site to better familiarize yourself with our approaches, methods, and philosophy.
PROGRAM BENEFITS
BENEFITS TO BEING A PROGRAM PARTICIPANT
-
Participants can drop off their learners
-
The program is unique to the kids participating in it and adapts to them throughout their time.
-
All sessions are facilitated by trained SCV Adventure Play Foundation Playworkers.
-
Homeschool funds are now available through our vendor status with Inspire or iLEAD (Gorman and Golden Valley coming soon!)
-
Program families are allowed to become more familiar to playworking and its methods which is rare for this region.
-
SCV Adventure Play Foundation offers playwork workshops for the program families periodically to enrich their knowledge of play
-
Kids who attend adventure playgrounds on a regular basis with the same group of kids develop much more rapidly in their social emotional growth, and are able to build upon the previous day because they are regularly on site.
-
Our playworkers are also able to respond better to the enrichment participants as they become more familiar with the participants and can prepare play opportunities based on that familiarity.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who are you a vendor with?
We currently are vendors with iLEAD and INSPIRE Charters. If you belong to another, let us know and we'll see if we can't get signed up as a vendor with them.
But what if I don't homeschool?
This program is designed for traditionally schooled families who have half days on either Wednesdays or Fridays too. It is a great way for kiddos who are both homeschooled or traditionally schooled to hang out too!
Can I drop off?
Yes!
